Saline and sodic soils represent a serious threat to global agricultural productivity and food security. This review article synthesizes the existing knowledge on reclamation strategies and emphasizes a paradigm shift from isolated soil treatments toward comprehensive soil ecosystem management. Integrated approaches that combine chemical amendments (such as gypsum), organic and bio-based interventions (such as compost and biochar), and biological reclamation techniques (such as halophytes and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria) are identified as the most effective solutions for restoring soil functionality and crop productivity. This review critically examines the advantages of these integrated methods and highlights their capacity to address multiple soil constraints simultaneously. However, significant limitations are also discussed, including high costs, water scarcity for leaching, inadequate drainage, slow biological responses, and the necessity for site-specific diagnosis. The recommendations focus on precision agriculture for site-specific management, circular economy principles for utilizing local waste materials as amendments, and strong policy support through government subsidies and infrastructure development. The article concludes that reclamation is technically feasible through synergistic strategies and underscores the need for future research on the long-term effects of novel amendments under climate change conditions.
